Resolution “Lite”

accreditation
I’m assuming most of you are back at work and I just want to say: about bladdy time!

I was one of those unlucky souls who DIDN’T get a break over December so I’m taking a small moment to whine. It was really lonely here at Women24 and the whole of Internetland.  You didn’t write, you didn’t tweet, you didn’t Facebook...

But enough with the recriminations, I’m in a forgiving mood. Let’s rather talk about New Year’s resolutions. Actually, let’s talk about how many New Year’s resolutions you’ve ALREADY broken.

After the horror that was 2011 I decided to go easy on myself and didn’t make a bunch of strict resolutions. Okay, I am lying, I never make strict resolutions because I always go easy on myself. (This is probably why I still can’t speak isiXhosa, am 7kgs overweight, and smoke when I drink.)

I am going to share my list of resolutions and their statuses because one of my resolutions is to face my flaws. Here goes:

•    Not to drink tequila on a week night. Broken. I won’t go into details.

•    Not to smoke before the sun sets. Broken. One must assume this has something to do with the point above.

•    To vary my breakfast every day. Fruit, oats, boiled eggs etc. Broken. Have eaten Marmite toast every single day of 2012.

•    To go to gym twice a week. Broken. Haven’t gone ONCE. Not even to buy a smoothie.

•    To stop fantasising that I am actually a Buffy-like superhero or elfin warrior princess trapped in a parallel and unfriendly universe. Broken. That’s why this newsletter is a bit late.

After whining about my broken resolutions (I’m apparently having a whiny day) Kele stepped in.

“Changing your life is not about a set of rules Lil.” I love it when my colleagues call me Lil. “It is about making small, consistent changes. You can relapse and knowing you, you ARE going to relapse. But the point is to work slowly and steadily towards how you want to live your life and that which will bring you happiness.”

Hmph. Guess who just came back zen from a 3 week holiday?

Anyway, if you’re like me and you’ve realised that you’re going to need some help to keep your resolutions from just turning into intentions, why don’t you have a look at these inspiring articles?
