Tips for staying positive

So we have survived the Mayan prediction.

Today is not over but I do believe we will survive Apophis, which will come within only 15 million kilometres of the Earth today.

No one can go back, but everyone can go forward. But, it’s how we chose to go forward that counts. And tomorrow, when the sun rises, and hopefully we do as well; we have to say to ourselves

This is the first day of my life.

I am so thankful to have spent time with loved ones over this break even though it was a short holiday. I listened to friends and family, and really felt thankful for all that I have.

From job losses, ending of a long marriage, financial problems, to health issues. Everyone is at some junction of their lives, facing decisions, uncertainty, closing off chapters in a thick book, some still stuck in a revolving door, however, no one is standing still, because no matter what you are facing, life or time does not stand still.

Some are very negative and with reason; I know that feeling. But every day, we have to consciously tell ourselves to be positive. Positivity is not a switch which you flick off and on, would be easier if there was one actually. Its a choice one makes. I can either slump and sulk or say "Fug It ... I am going to get through whatever!"

“For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.” - John F.Kennedy

We go through stages, phases, things come and things pass us, and once we learn to accept them and go with the flow (as my son tells me all the time), we somehow overcome them. So whatever you are going through as difficult and hopeless as you might think it is, you can smile without feeling guilty, you can be happy; it’s not a sin. We need to let go of our fears, we tell our kids, “don’t be afraid, try new things, so what if it doesn’t work, you can always try again or try something new”.  If only we took the same advice and lived our lives with the innocence of a child. So what if we fail, try … try again!

The formula is letting things go of things which are beyond our control.

Release them. Detach yourself from them. Even if you don’t have the best hand of cards, it’s not what you have, it’s how you play them which counts.

I have learnt not to expect anything in return, I don’t expect a thank you for things I chose to do for someone, I am learning to stop waiting for things to happen, but going out there and making it happen. There is no perfect time. There is only now. Time is now not tomorrow. The seconds the minutes the hours continue. I wish there was a time out, or when we get ill, go through a crisis, we raise our hands and form a “T”, we also don’t get replays, and time just ticks on by.

The only thing within my control is me, my choices, my decisions, what I chose to allow into my space and how I deal with the lemons when they do get hurled at me. Whatever we give out to the universe, will keep us company.

I refuse to waste time standing still, or wasting time on things which I cannot solve straight away. I have been there, waiting and waiting, and looking back, I wasted precious time. Kick to the curb and carry on walking, it may follow you, but along the way you stopped for coffee and probably bought a pair of shoes. But you just did not wait on the same curb.

“Time is free, but it’s priceless. You cannot own it, but you can use it. You cannot keep it, but you can spend it. Once you have lost it you can never get it back.” - Harvey MacKay
