The mortality rate on SA roads is appallingly high and our Minister of Transport S’bu Ndebele is looking at ways to lower it.
Since up to 45% of fatal road accidents are linked to alcohol abuse, the idea is to outlaw it completely.
If Ndebele has his way, it will basically mean that you cannot drink – not even a light beer - within 4 hours of driving a vehicle.
Will this make a difference?
What about:
• Speeding,
• Proper licensing, and the
• Road-worthiness of vehicles?
Shouldn’t these also be considered in the fight against the useless slaughter on our roads?
And most importantly: we’ll need an actual police presence on our roads to enforce the rules.
