Fighting abuse against women and children

The Vital Foundation was founded by Vital Health Foods to help in the fight against women and child abuse.  We believe that healthy families and homes are safe environments that enable all to be physically, emotionally and socially healthy.

The Vital Foundation provides access to expert information on women and child abuse and the services and assistance that are available, through this portal. This makes a wide range of resources from various organisations, specialists and activists visible to all South Africans and the world through one platform.

The Vital Foundation will also provide funding to organisations currently offering services related to women and child abuse. Organisations, groups and individuals will be invited to apply for funding later this year.

Who we are
The Vital Foundation builds healthy families through supporting organisations fighting the scourge of women and child abuse.  Families in South Africa cannot be healthy unless women and children are safe in their homes.  Through the Vital Foundation, Vital Health Foods is joining the fight against women and child abuse in our society.

The Vital Foundation was formed by family-owned and -run Vital Health Foods, with George Grieve as Chairperson. Vital Health Foods has been in the business of keeping families healthy in South Africa and beyond since 1947.
Professor Rachel Jewkes, leading international scholar in the field of gender and health and Director of the Medical Research Council Gender & Health Research Unit, is Specialist Advisor to the Vital Foundation.

Funding will be provided through Vital Health Foods’ R1 makes a difference campaign, for every pack of Vital vitamins sold in South Africa, Vital Health Foods will donate R1 from the sale to the Foundation.

Vital Health Foods have not added to the price and no-one is paying more - we are making this donation on the consumers’ behalf. So while you are looking after your health and that of your family, you can also make a difference to the lives of others.
The Vital Foundation will work together with other organisations in this arena and will form partnerships to strengthen efforts through combined forces.

R1 makes a difference
Our R1 makes a difference campaign sees R1 from the price of every pack of Vital vitamins sold in South Africa going to the work of the Vital Foundation. In this way the consumer can help to make a difference to women and child abuse in our country.

We have not added on to the price and no-one is paying more - we are making this donation on the consumers’ behalf. So while you are looking after your health and that of your family, you can also help others.

The idea for this campaign came from the observation of the general public's perceived inability and helplessness to do anything about the escalating abuse of women and children,  despite their awareness of it. Many people still shrug their shoulders and say "What can I do about it?". We want to empower them in a way, and also to highlight to people that even an amount as little as R1 can make a huge difference when everyone works together.
