Can the church help stop abuse?

South African Faith and Family Institute (SAFFI) recognizes that religion plays an integral part both in the continuation of violence against women and in its eradication. It seeks to be a resource to religious leaders and faith communities and encourages that Places of Worship become Sanctuaries of Hope and Healing to individuals and families who experience sexual and domestic violence.

SAFFI’s national launch programme coincides with the 16 Days of Activism Campaign. SAFFI calls on religious leaders from all faith traditions to pledge their Commitment to Collaborate with Government and existing Gender-based Violence service providers to prevent and eradicate violence against women and children.

Elizabeth Petersen, a Cape Town-based social worker and founder of SAFFI partnered with the FaithTrust Institute (FTI) while in the U.S. on a Fulbright Humphrey Fellowship in 2008. Rev Dr Marie Fortune - Founder of FTI, will be the keynote visiting guest on the SAFFI launch programme, courtesy – US Consulate.
