Confessions of a curvy girl

Many (most) of us will always find something that we dislike about ourselves, whether it’s our ears, legs or hair, there will always be that thing we wish we could change, and some go to extremes to get the change they so badly desire and some learn to live with it and accept it.

I was like that, mine was just about weight though.

I was the girl who, if I was offered one wish, it would be to change my body.

I would feel intimidated around anybody smaller than me, I would not buy something because I felt fat in it, mean time I am overweight and no matter how many times I changed my clothes, how many fits I threw in a change room and how many times I wished a genie would appear so that I can just have my one wish to be thin it didn’t happen.

Being overweight doesn’t immediately make you unhealthy nor does it make you any less human.

Yes, there are health issues and increased chances of suffering from diseases, but everyone, thin, fat, tall, short faces some sort of health issue at some stage in their life.

What bothers me is not that people immediately think I am unhealthy and worry about my wellbeing but rather that some actually have an issue with weight.

Bearing in mind that a size 36 (which to me is normal) is considered plus sized, one either has to be thin or plus sized, where is the in-between? The average size?

Anyway, having said all of that, I have gotten to a different place – a happy place where there is no judgment, no looks of disgust if I am eating something particularly fatty which will go straight to my hips, and rocking plus size fashion looks despite the fact that our ranges are rather limited and frumpy (that’s a story for another day) I try make them work.

I am hoping to get some friends in my part of the world, the world of self-acceptance and self-appreciation.

Hopefully this world will grow in numbers until eventually there aren’t two separate worlds but one, where fat and thin can live together without judgment, where beauty isn’t necessarily skinny. Where a big deal isn’t made of your dress size.

You can find my world on Facebook , Twitter and WordPress all sizes are welcome.
