Help! It's got me in its grip

accreditation
It has arrived.

Every year I am determined not to fall victim to it and every year I fail. This year I actually made it past the 15th of the month before the symptoms started to appear. I was just about to get smug when it hit.

Now, three days later I’m a full-fledged sufferer.

Every morning when I wake up and realise it’s not Friday, like I thought it was, I have to fight back tears. Then I have to fight back the urge to break my leg or something as an excuse for not going to work. And this last week or so, when the clock strikes 2pm, my productivity plummets with at least 40%. I snap at my colleagues for no reason and heaven help the hapless driver who happens to sit in front of me in traffic. I crave vast amounts of alcohol, but when the weekend finally arrives, I end up spending the whole time watching series in my pyjamas instead.

I’m suffering from Novemberitis, of course. That dreaded disease that creeps up on us every year at the 11th hour. When we feel like children at the end of a party – tired and sticky and wanting to go home.

I see it everywhere – couples fighting for no reason, friends going on crash diets, friends going on Eat-All-The-Things binges, colleagues swearing at their computers and muttering to themselves in the bathrooms, and parents blowing up at their kids for the smallest transgressions.

We’re coming apart at the seams, folks.

Luckily there is a cure – it’s called the December break. I am almost (I say almost because I’m scared my boss is reading this) counting the days before I can go on leave.

And I know I’m not the only one...
