Our reader feels that the views expressed in the article “ I’m surrounded by assholes” doesn’t give the right perception of Hamas, which is a new rule that will see the separation of male and female students in Palestinian schools.
This is what she wrote:
I am an avid reader of News24. I appreciate keeping up to date with the happenings of the world.
I was a bit shocked when I read this article. The author seemed very smart and captivating... At the end, it turned out to be a well put together piece of effortless ranting.
I am disappointed that she has expressed bias and suppressed a few facts.
Comment about - Hamas in Palestine. Has the author studied Islam to derive that such a practice is oppressing to women?
Why does she then use this as a reference?
Let me explain. I am a Muslim woman. I am educated. I am currently studying a few psychology subjects. One of them is called Career psychology.
It is amazing that many of the theorists point out that "careers are constructed differently but developed the same even though men and women experience different challenges."
This is a section devoted to understanding the challenges a woman has to overcome in her career, to point out that as much as we don't say it, her journey will always be different to a man.
Now, Islam, co-incidentally supports this! We as Muslims are taught that women are different, we are delicate. Why then do we have to endure the experiences of men?
It is clear from western theorists that this is the fundamental problem in society. So why do we critique, without research, actions that are anything but sexist?
Actions that are sensitive to the needs of women!
There are many schools that separate females and males, even in South Africa. Look them up.
Tell me, why no mention of young nuns at convent school? Is that not the same principle that Hamas is practising?
Is it not the same principle that should allow young girls to receive the education specific to them, comfortably?
I must tell you, I would prefer that, I really felt uncomfortable in a mixed school, during biology discussions of the female hormonal system and organs at school.
Whilst I do not approve of Hamas, let us be fair and not misinterpret them unnecessarily.
Though this may be her opinion, it shouldn't be mixed with unsupported facts. News is factual not opinionated.
