Quick happy fixes

I’ve compiled a little list for myself, consisting of things that make me happy when I’m feeling down – à la Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music which I re-watched last weekend.

(I know, I know, desperate times call for desperate measures, but it was FABULOUS. I loved every minute!)

And because life can be pretty damn sucky sometimes, and because we’re almost entering Novemberitis time, I’ve decided to share my personal list with you. I can’t guarantee that my tips will work for you, but hey, you might have a cheap laugh at my expense which will also work.

So, here’s my list:

•    I watch The Sound of Music. Seriously, my cynical self evaporates, I sing along to all the songs, and I perve on Captain von Trapp. What a fox!

•    I draw a hot bath (hot enough so that I look like a pickled beet afterwards) with a generous splash of vinegar to combat the cookie monster that soap and water can give you “down there” (it works a charm) and read a book without worrying that the pages curl from the steam.

•    I tell the people I love that I love them, because life is short. And sometimes I shout it at them in German, because life is also confusing and terrifying. *I did not come up with this – I read it somewhere, but doing it in real life is hilarious.

•    I visit my niece and we bake something. Usually without a recipe and it ends with both of us covered in flour, but it’s worth it watching her licking out the bowl.

•    I buy a few bottles of good sparkling wine and have a homemade spa day with my sisters. We start with the idea of pampering ourselves from the tips of our toes to the tops of our heads, but it always degenerates in limp cucumber slices lying all over the place and giggling fits when we have egg white on our faces and we pretend to be snowmen.

•    I get together with my funniest, bitchiest friend and we give everyone we know marks out of ten for their looks and personality. It’s awful, I know, but it is extremely cheering!

•    I watch a stupid horror movie with a friend and heckle the characters all the way through.

Okay, that’s me then. Now it’s your turn. Tell me what
