‘Our society is rotten with rape’

I sit here dumbfounded and at a loss for words with an abundance of emotions flooding through me I frighten myself.

I am not even going to go there with the Oscar case, as I hope and pray that our justice system follows the correct course, because with all the sensationalism going on its tiring and confusing all in one. My heart breaks for both families and I hope this ends quickly for all their sakes.

As for rape in this tired old RAPED country of ours I hang my head in shame to think that our society breeds  these types of things, because I refuse to call them animals because animals DO NOT torture or rape their own.

Today’s newspaper, young women raped by two men she knew well, both released on R500 rand bail and released  back into society and are now within 200m of where this young girl lives, where is the justice and common sense in this country.

Our system is letting our women down in a very serious way and this is going have a detrimental effect on the future of our young women in this country. I am so saddened and disillusioned everyday when I read these types of stories because this reflects that there is something seriously wrong in our society, that young men find enjoyment and pleasure in torturing, mutilating and raping.

Then they give you this crap about poverty causes these young men to act in this way; oh please don’t get me riled up again, this type of excuse just pisses me off big time. At the end of the day you all have a choice how you act in society.

Being women and a mother of young women it frightens me to think that something like this could easily happen to my beautiful child, the rage that comes up in me is frightening indeed. I try hard to have a positive attitude and to believe that there is good in this world, hard, but I try. I cannot live my life in constant fear; otherwise I allow these sick freaks to win.

I always do the preach thing with Shanny when she goes out, or is away for work, I always tell her make sure your car doors are locked, make sure your handbag is in the boot, or are you sure your hotel door is locked and the balcony door, and I can already see her face with the rolling eyes YES MOM.

I find this extremely sad to think our society has become so rotten that it affects the way we act, think and live our lives every day. I just know that not enough is being done to start taking this crime as a very serious one indeed, our justice system is failing us and something has to be done. We all need to stand together, men, women, young and old, colour doesn’t matter as it effects all of us and stand to make a change.
