A grieving husband is finally going to tick off the last item on his late wife’s bucket list – with an incredible 100 km trek across the Himalayas.
Steve Boryszczuk (51) who lost the love of his life Michelle (43) to early onset of Alzheimer’s disease in 2013, has made it his mission to make her dreams come true.
He has spent the last few years travelling the world and ticking off the items on Michelle’s bucket list. He has visited countries like China and Peru and even seen the tallest volcano in Costa Rica.
He left a lock of Michelle’s hair in these incredible places, so that part of her will always be there.
Michelle and Steve met when he was just 17 years old – and it was love at first sight. When Michelle turned 16 the pair got married and went on to have two sons.
They had planned on to travelling the world once their two children were old enough. Michelle had even drafted a detailed plan for their adventures – but then she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 38.
She died before they could fulfil any of their plans.
“It was absolutely devastating for me, it still is, I was distraught. I’ll miss her for the rest of my life, she was my whole world,” Steve told the Grimsby Telegraph.
According to Viral Thread, Steve wants to raise awareness of the disease in young people, while simultaneously completing his late wife’s bucket list.
Since she passed away, he has walked across the 16 bridges in London, the Yorkshire Thee Peaks, The Great Wall of China and the Isle of Wight’s coastal path, just to name a few!
However, in October, Steve and his friend Tony Butler will take on their biggest challenge yet and complete the list by trekking the Himalayas.
“I just hope she’d be proud of everything I’m doing for her in her memory. I’m going to make the most of every wonderful second on that walk because I know she would have done.”
The Himalayan trek will take over 10 days, during which they’ll reach heights of 13 000 ft (3962 m).
