Women stress more at work

We all know how stressful work can be at times most of the time. Strict deadlines, long hours, and grumpy bosses are just some of the factors that can lead to this.

But, if you think that men have it as bad as we do, think again.

According to a recent study by the American Psychological Association, one third of workers experience chronic work related stress. But, in women, it’s especially prevalent.

The survey, which was done among 1501 working adults, shows that women feel less likely to achieve career advancement within their current job. They are less likely to report feeling valued by their boss, and are more likely to feel underpaid. Women also reported feeling tense at work, while men didn’t really have this issue on such a large scale.

While I think the stats are pretty horrifying, it doesn’t really come as a shock to me.

I mean, we all know that men and women still don’t get paid the same salaries.

Women often get discriminated against because there’s a chance that they will probably fall pregnant during their term of employment. And we have to deal with egotistical men who think they have a right to make sexist comments about what we’re wearing or how we look on a particular day.

No wonder we stress more when we’re at work! We constantly have to watch our backs. If it isn’t our boss that wants to fire us because we’re on (legal) maternity leave, it’s having to deal with our male colleague who earns way more than us and does half the work.

So, although we’ve come a long way since the days where we weren’t even allowed to vote, studies like this just prove that we still have a lot of work to do. This might mean more stress, but I think we can handle it, don’t you?
