Why mentorship is important for your growth

accreditation

Having a mentor allows you to have someone to bounce ideas on and strong support system from an experienced individual. “Many people still don’t have the luxury of a tertiary education; coaching and mentorship bridges that gap,” explains HR specialist Hanifa Jassiem.

“Education is fundamental to professional development, but learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom. Many skills can’t be acquired from a textbook, but rather, through seeing and experiencing these skills in action.”

Having a mentor by your side is also about building the support you need to achieve personal goals. “Whether it’s learning an unfamiliar system or transitioning into a new role at work, we’re more effective with the right support.”

Jassiem believes that it’s important for companies to include employee development as an integral part of their vision. “Through mentoring others, you also learn from the experience and have the chance to enhance your own skills, from communication to leadership. Mentors also reap the reward that comes with knowing they’ve played an integral role in someone else’s success.”
