Pure mathematics has often been a subject that pupils dread to take on. Fearing failure, the majority of pupils preparing for their final matric exams generally opt for mathematics literacy, hoping that it is easier to pass.

However, the days of dread and fear are disappearing as more pupils seem to enjoy maths, so much so that some now score a perfect 100% in the subject. Last year, 74 pupils achieved 100% in pure maths in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.
