Amid mounting calls for the removal of Dali Mpofu SC from the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), the Black Lawyers Association (BLA) has weighed in, in the aftermath of last week’s interviews of candidates for chief justice, calling for the commission to “conduct its own introspection and audit its process in order to change how it operates”.
Mpofu has come under fire for his conduct during the interviews, particularly when he asked Gauteng judge president Dunstan Mlambo about rumours of sexual harassment. And his questions to Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) president Mandisa Maya were found to be sexist.
