Hunger has increased across the board under South Africa’s Covid-19 coronavirus lockdown, but new evidence points to what experts say is an old phenomenon – adults going hungry for the sake of their children.
The National Income Dynamics Study – Coronavirus Rapid Mobile survey was published on Wednesday and shows that reported hunger among adults is higher (22%) than in children (15%). The data were collected between May 7 and June 27, and included a sample of about 7 000 respondents.
