Christmas came a little early at Sun City Resort in North West this year with the official switch-on of the Christmas lights at the holiday and entertainment destination on Friday evening.

Enjoying eggnog, yummy gingerbread biscuits and muffins decorated with festive symbols, residents from various hotels in the resort joined a choir in singing Christmas carols early on Friday evening before Sun City’s general manager, Brett Hoppe, welcomed the happy crowd.

A few minutes later, the national anthem was sung and after a countdown, kids joined Hoppe in pulling the lever that saw the resort lit up in a beautiful explosion of colours to usher in the festive season.

You could feel the excitement in the air as the crowd reclaimed their lives somewhat and put the devastation of Covid-19 behind them.

With that flick of a switch, the festive season truly arrived in Sun City and the various festive season lights adorning the streets and key areas at the different hotels also showed that a resilient tourism sector is clawing its way back after the pandemic.

This weekend, with many schools celebrating the end of exams, also saw groups of kids from all over South Africa at the resort celebrating their well-deserved break in the park.

Soon the jovial crowd was dancing to Master KG’s Jerusalema in a fun line dance.
