Kevin Katsande, the brother of former Kaizer Chiefs legend Willard Katsande, faces jail time following his arrest for reckless and negligent driving, after he was involved in an accident while driving the retired footballer’s minibus vehicle in Ruimsig, Roodeport.

City Press understands that police are investigating the circumstances of a head-on collision that took place last month. The driver of a white Toyota was taken to Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital before members of the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) attended to the scene.

According to a JMPD official, Kevin was taken to the Honeydew Police Station, where he was charged and had a blood sample subsequently taken for alcohol testing.

The official said:

On Saturday, February 18, I attended an accident scene at 10pm and it was alleged that two vehicles had collided with each other. When I arrived, the driver [had already been] already taken to hospital with serious injuries. The other car was driven by Kevin Katsande, who said he was residing in Ruimsig. He was then taken to the police station and charged.

The official further alleged that the vehicle belonged to the former Sekhukhune United midfielder.

Previously, City Press reported that Willard accepted a R60 000 settlement from a man who assaulted him during a road rage incident that took place in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg, in 2021.

He opened a case of assault at the Honeydew Police Station after the assailant, identified as Jacobus Koekemoer, showed the veteran footballer a middle finger, which led to an altercation that resulted in the footballer incurring injuries to his arm and his car being vandalised.

The 36-year-old hung up his boots last year after plying his trade at DStv Premiership outfit Sekhukhune United. Attempts to reach him drew a blank as his phone rang unanswered. He also did not respond to a written enquiry.

The police had not commented at the time of publishing.
