In just nine months, the backlog in dealing with sexual offences increased by 30%. By December last year, 81.4% of the sex cases were on the backlog queue – these are cases that have dragged on for more than six months.
Among the cases are 15 600 dealing with sexual offences and thousands of victims are children, many of whom have been waiting for years to testify against their alleged molesters and rapists.
