Deteriorating electricity infrastructure, persistent roof leakage, and rat infestation are the horrendous conditions that social workers who are meant to assist gender-based violence (GBV) survivors in the GBV Command Centre (GBVCC) in Pretoria are forced to work under as the number of survivors of continue to soar.

According to a letter from the GBVCC, social worker supervisors report to the management team that in turn reports to the social development department, the social workers must contend with several infrastructural issues that impede the smooth functioning of services.
