Run Alex Athletics Club has announced a 10km road race approved by the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) which will be hosted in  Alexandra township in Johannesburg in the new year.

The club was formally registered with the CGA in 2020 after existing as a training group for several years and hosting a fun run.

Run Alex said following the success of the fun run, the CGA granted the club the well-deserved right to host a formal 10km race in the historic and beloved township.

According to the club, Human Rights Day - 21 December 2024 - has been marked in the CGA calendar for next year and going forward as a day when runners will take over the streets of Gomora, as Alex is popularly  known.

Adreach Group, as the race's platinum sponsor, retains the naming rights for the next three years, with the race dubbed the Adreach Alex 10km.

The upliftment of the community of Alexandra has always been at the heart of our operations. We are excited to have made our contribution with the fun run that resulted in this 10km road race and we are even more thrilled to guide the growth of this race for the next three years and ensure that the community gets the full benefits of this event.
