Guests at the wedding of former Muvhango actress Buhle Samuels and Thando Sonqishe have described dramatic scenes of bouncers everywhere, being barred from taking pictures and expensive alcohol at the private event on Monday.

One guest described the celebration as a beautiful and private affair.

“They are both private people and they asked us to respect that. I know videos of the wedding are flying around but we had a good time. We enjoyed [ourselves]. We were treated well,” one guest said.

The private wedding was organised by celebrity luxury event planner Londiwe “Londy” Mazwide of Andimahle Building Events.

“Londy was the only person allowed to take pictures at the wedding,” another guest said.

The guest also added that Samuels and Songishe’s wedding was something she had never witnessed before, adding that the groom walked around with bouncers.

“We were barred from taking pictures. The only person who probably posted is the event planner ... It was a very private affair, only close friends. Armed guards were trailing behind the groom. The place had bouncers who made sure that we did not take pictures,” the guest said.

The venue, which was draped in white flowery fabric, was buzzing with celebrity guests, among them reality television show Madam and Mercy star Natalie Hlahla, actress Phindile Gwala, media personalities Khanya Mkangisa, Denise Zimba and K Naomi Phakathi, former Miss SA Tamaryn Green, actor Yonda Thomas and businessperson Jabulani “Cashflow” Ngcobo.

The couple kept their guests well-nourished with expensive alcohol.

“It was beautiful. A booze galore ... there were three bottles of Veuve [Clicquot champagne] on our table. It retails for R925 at Pick n Pay!” the guest said.

Although guests were given strict instructions to switch off their phones on entering the venue, photos and videos of the ceremony surfaced online a day later.

In some of the pictures, the newly weds are seen clad in black outfits. Samuels looked elegant in what appeared to be an MaXhosa-inspired one-sleeve black and white dress while her husband wore a Chinese-inspired black shirt with black and white details on the buttons.

Samuels took to her Instagram page two days after the wedding and posted a brand new Porsche Carrera 4s worth about R3 million. The caption read: “Welcome home babe!”

The couple’s traditional wedding took place at Samuels’ home in the Eastern Cape last month.
