Mzansi Magic is set to give us another banger with its upcoming telenovela Magaeng.

The new drama has been flying under the radar for quite a while, but it has finally been announced that Magaeng will hit the small screens in just a few days. On July 10, all soapie fanatics can tune into Mzansi Magic to watch the star-studded cast of the drama grace our screens.

The show features many well-known faces but will centre on musician and actress Khabonina Qubeka’s character, Zama Ndaba. Magaeng will follow Zama, an ostentatious and ambitious woman, whose desire for fame leads her down the wrong path. Zama decides to join a reality TV show in an attempt to rid herself of the perceptions surrounding her family’s criminal past.

Zama is placed under witness protection and forced to move to a rural town, under a new identity with the name Sheila. Zama and her teenage children must blend into their new life, while attempting to maintain their new low-profile personas, or suffer the consequences of being caught and likely murdered.

The cast includes small screen up-and-comers Kopano Mahlasi and Bonga Mhlongo, who play Qubeka’s children. We have also confirmed that veteran actor Themba Ndaba has been cast as Bheki, Zama’s greedy and power-hungry husband.

In a twist almost as shocking as a good telenovela, it seems former Generations actress Kagiso Rakosa will have her comeback moment on the show. If your memory serves you well, you’ll remember her character, Sharon, from the SABC 1 soapie Generations.

Her departure from our screens came when she abruptly left the soapie and disappeared from the limelight.

At the time of her departure, reports began circulating about her alleged affair with the late Shona Ferguson, who was married to Connie Ferguson, a fellow actress on the soapie. The rumours took a turn when it was alleged that Rakosa had a love child with Ferguson, which led to her being blacklisted by South African production companies.

In an interview with well-known entertainment journalist Phil Mphela, Shona Ferguson denied these claims saying:

“An email has been circulating with claims that my wife and I are divorcing because I made a colleague of hers pregnant. We heard about this a while back and laughed it off and chose to ignore it. For whatever reason, this is not going away, so we have decided to set the record straight:

Sharon the character on Generations is pregnant with Samuel's child, but Kagiso the actress is not pregnant in real life. I believe she sent out a statement confirming this.

It seems Mzansi is celebrating Rakosa's comeback, as congratulatory messages pour in on social media.
