Sydney Ramakuwela is set to make a “surprise appearance" on popular drama series Muvhango almost two years after he was shown the door by the show’s producers.

His come back was announced by the SABC on Thursday evening. “The Royal outcast comes back from Mauritius," the SABC confirmed.

"Mulalo is best known for his scheming, self-victimisation and constant comparison to Azwindini, as he feels he should also have a predominant role in the Mukwevho family."

Viewers can look forward to seeing him on the Friday night episode.

In 2022, there were reports that Ramakuwela, who played Mulalo and had been part of the cast for 15 year, was booted off the show alongside MacDonald Ndou who played KK.

According to reports, while no outright reason was given for the pair's dismissal, their contracts were not renewed when everyone was signing new contracts. "We were told that the story was taking a different direction," commented Ndou at the time.

Ramakuwela’s character is not the only one returning on the show. This as on Thursday evening, viewers witness the appearance of a character who was once everyone’s crush, Matshidiso, played by actress Buhle Samuels.

According to Word of Mouth Productions, all the surprise returns are part of ushering the show’s 25th season.

Tshepo “Howza” Mosese, who played Lerumo on etv’s Scandal!, joins the show as Manditi who is describes as a character who stops at nothing to achieve his goals. He is joined by Skeem Saam’s Aubrey Mmakola, Sinete Nemakonde and Mudi Mudau who will play mother and daughter.

Muvhango is back filming season 25 after allegedly facing the never-ending financial woes during production break, just after wrapping up season 24.

In November, City Press reported that the cast and crew were not paid and had not signed new contracts.

At the time, one of the show’s producers, Yeshica Naidoo, said they were waiting for a new contract and directive from the SABC, hence there were no contracts. She denied that the cast and crew were not paid.
