Family entertainment giant Walt Disney Company achieved a centenary milestone on 16 October and it has been a year-long celebration, with the main event taking place in Paris earlier this month.

Johannesburg and Cape Town are due to get their turn to celebrate the company that gave the entire world a memorable childhood when the Disney Cinema Outdoor Experience hits the two cities in December.

For 10 days from 7 to 17 December, the V&A Waterfront Croquet Lawn and Waterfall City Park at the Mall of Africa will come alive as princes and princesses of all ages gather under the stars to experience the magic that is Disney. Six of Disney’s most timeless stories will come under the spotlight of the warm South African sun, just to add to the fuzzy feeling that these tales invoke inside everyone who grew up watching them.

Johannesburg and Cape Town will be abuzz with Disney fans of all ages coming together to celebrate the family entertainment giant's 100th anniversary.

Disney will bring The Lion King 2019 remake, starring a South African actor who found international stardom decades ago, Dr John Kani as Rafiki and R&B living legend Beyonce Knowles as Nala. Other stories that will form part of Mzansi’s Disney 100th celebrations include Frozen 2 and Encanto, Disney/Pixar’s The Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory, as well as The Greatest Showman.

In addition to these delightful films, there will also be activations and activities for the attendees to enjoy, and everyone is encouraged to put their best foot forward and dress up as their favourite Disney characters to amplify the merrymaking a tad. Christine Service, senior vice president and general manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa, says: 

We are excited to create an exciting outdoor event for fans and families of all ages to relive their most beloved Disney memories and delight in new, heartwarming stories and experiences.

Tickets are available at R100 each, with a 20% special discount offered to FNB card holders. They are on sale now at TicketPro.co.za. Ster-Kinekor will provide its well-known snack and confection offerings.
