Africa is in dire need of more authors to record and reflect on their environment and to produce a body of knowledge recognisably African, yet relevant internationally. The continent produces only about 2% of the worlds’ knowledge and to ensure sustained production of knowledge, we need to give value to our authors, writes Monica Seeber.

Most authors in South Africa can’t afford to write for a living. While there are no statistics available for this country, our authors are not alone in this dilemma.
