South Africa is losing its war on alien plants despite throwing billions of rand at the problem since the 1990s.

Now experts have called for a shake-up of Working for Water, the government-funded campaign that has led the charge against aliens since 1995.

In addition to more money, they recommend concentrating on priority areas, maximising the use of biological controls, focusing on high-risk species and improving management and monitoring.
