A new report shows South Africa's greenhouse gas emissions - which cause climate change - have peaked, but more work lies ahead to meet the 2030 target range, said the Presidential Climate Commission.
Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Barbara Creecy this week published the draft of the ninth Greenhouse Gas Inventory for public comment.
The inventory covers the period 2000 to 2022, and estimates the current emissions levels and trends in the country. The inventory is compiled as part of the country's climate commitments. As a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, South Africa and others - are required to track emissions - as part of efforts to stabilise global emissions.
