An urgent court bid to prevent Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) from terminating a R1.1 billion security contract on the North Corridor with a joint venture that includes the controversial Amahlo Consulting has failed.
The High Court in Johannesburg dismissed the Amahlo Joint Venture (JV) application on Tuesday with costs, saying that it had not demonstrated urgency. Amahlo wants TFR to honour the five-year contract awarded only eight months ago.
The Amahlo JV was fired by TFR at the end of March due to poor performance. The North Corridor is TFR's most lucrative rail route, carrying more than 50% of its total freight rail volumes.
