During the Covid-19 pandemic, weak demand for residential rental stock pushed vacancies to record highs, however, the market is recovering, including in the higher rental brackets.
According to credit bureau TPN, one reason for increased demand is low rental escalations during the pandemic.
The average rental in middle-class suburbs now ranges from around R8 000 per month to around R14 000 per month, and upwards of R18 000 per month to R28 000 per month in pricier suburbs, according to Samuel Seeff, chair of the Seeff Property Group.
