Even indoor plants are seasonal and as it gets cooler, cyclamen come into flower for long-lasting colour through winter. Available in shades of pink, purple and white, the blooms look like butterflies, carried above oval or heart-shaped variegated silver and green leaves.

Newer cultivars may have frilled or bi-coloured pink-and-white blooms that look almost hand-painted. The main care requirement is not to overwater or let the pot stand in water. Keep the soil moist, letting it dry out slightly before watering. Cyclamens thrive in a cool room with bright, indirect light.

A monthly feed of liquid fertiliser will keep them flowering. Remove dead flower stalks.
