Al Ahly and Esperance could not be separated following a goalless draw in first-leg of the CAF Champions League final on Saturday evening.
Percy Tau formed part of the attacking trio the holders adopted with Hussein El Shahat and Wessam Abou Ali alongside him.
Esperance missed a golden chance go abegging when a delightful cross from the right connected with Rodrigo Rodrigues who nodded across the face of goal.
The Egyptian giants were thrown a spanner in the works with fullback Ali Maaloul not being able to continued and left Karim Fouad to come in.
Tau battled to influence proceedings though enjoyed movements out wide in the offensive third however didn’t get the necessary angles to unlock the host.
With halftime in sight, the Taraji were having the lion share of momentum overall and fired shots in from all angles that had Mostafa Shobeir in a spot of bother.
The battle continued minutes in the second stanza, with the host in particular coming in from all angles but the visitors maintained cover at the back.
Given the lack of chances, it reduced the set of teams to grab possession to line-up shots across the area and far post of either goal.
Esperance eagerly looked to go ahead and persisted pushing forward from all angles, but were unable to cause Shobeir any issues.
All the while, the defending champions adapted to the pressure coming the way before bringing on Mohammed Magdy Afsha with Tau out for Reda Slim.
The lack of clear openings continued to elude either side and were forced to settle for a goalless draw ahead of next weekend’s second-leg in Cairo.
