The seasons are changing, and with that, your skincare routine should change too. As it gets colder, you need to take into account that changes in temperature can have a major effect on your skin, which includes its health and texture, as well as make-up application.

Making small changes to your daily routine can help keep your skin soft, healthy and moisturised during the colder seasons.

Try the following tips from Sunpac to change up your skincare routine for winter:

1. Increase hydration

Although dry skin is typically associated with winter, your skin can start to lose moisture from the beginning stages of autumn. "If your summer skincare regime consisted of lighter lotions and gel cleansers, you might want to switch to richer creams and milky or creamy cleansers for the colder months," the Sunpac team advise.

Search for products containing hyaluronic acid, "an excellent hydrator that helps add and lock moisture into the skin."

Recommendation: Creightons H2O Boost Overnight Mask (R169.95)

2. Add a serum to your skincare regime

If you're not already using a serum, the colder months may be a good time to start including one in your regime. Serums are applied after cleansing and toning and before your moisturiser.

"Serums contain targeted ingredients that help address specific concerns, be it dryness, pigmentation or breakouts. For an added hydration boost, invest in a good quality serum and allow it to absorb for a minute or two before following with a hydrating moisturiser."

Recommendation: Creightons 2% Vitamin C Serum (R139.95) to tackle dull skin, or Creightons H2O Boost Hyaluronic Serum (R179.95) to boost hydration.

3. Switch to liquid make-up formulas

While powder foundation, blush or bronzer can be great during summer to absorb excess oil or moisture on the skin and decrease shine, in winter it may add to that drying effect.

"You may want to swap out your powder formulas for liquid formulas, as they are more hydrating on drier winter skin. Plus, if your skin is already a little bit dry, a powdery texture will exaggerate the dryness, leaving your skin texture looking flaky."

Recommendation: wet n wild PhotoFocus Dewy Foundation (R129.95)

Other changes you can make to your routine include switching out matte lipsticks for hydrating formulas to keep your lips smooth and supple and replacing a mattifying make-up primer with an illuminating or moisture rich one.
