Caviar-infused scents and celebs!

accreditation
Hi girls

Last week I was invited to a very swish dinner held in the Presidential Suite of the Table Bay Hotel – another launch do for Thierry Mugler's new fragrance, Womanity (R595 for a 30ml refillable EDP). It was, like, ultra-luxurious and I can't tell you how hard it was, not stealing the Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries while taking a pee in a bathroom that was approximately the size of my lounge.

Still, I was on my best behaviour because I was in über-glam company, seated next to glamazon Michelle McLean, (this woman is like a seriously hot, stylish giraffe). Also in attendance was MAN reality TV star Henri Slier, he of the perfect teeth, and a very preggers, very gorgeous Catriona Andrew.

Anyhoo, we were treated to an indulgent caviar and fig-addled meal inspired by the notes of the perfume, a woody, sweet and savoury blend. Now, if you've read my last column, you'll know I described it as "strange" and I still feel it's a scentual oddity. However, it's really starting to grow on me. And not just because it's marketing-folk are plying me with pink champagne (Although that is very nice...). I really do feel it's much like its older sisters, Angel and Alien, in that you may find it a bit "odd" or "too much" when it makes its debut, but warm to it over time. A bit like Lady Gaga, if you will...

I think Catriona was quite taken with it (She revealed that she's layered herself in Angel products ever since it launched and has continued to wear the sweet scent throughout her pregnancy without the slightest hint of nausea). Michelle, upon smelling the caviar notes (the scent was broken down for us during a little talk) said they reminded her of "wild veldflowers after the rain". Lush...

Another do I hit up? A Woolies bash where they showed us media peeps all the new and exciting products they'll have in-store over Christmas. The beauty goodie that most got my pulse racing was Benefit's new complexion kit, Her Name Was Glowla, R395.

It contains everything you'd ever need to create a radiant faux glow, namely CORALista face powder High Beam and Moon Beam liquid highlighters, BADGal Lash mascara, Life on the A List lip gloss and a five shade eye shadow palette. Perfect for the party season...

(While on the subject of Woolies, don't forget that their Beauty Festival is currently on, ending on the 5th of next month. Of all the specials they have, the biggest is that if you spend R200 on any Woolworths brand beauty item, you'll get R50 off).

Now, let's talk product!

Have you seen Estee Lauder's newest eye shadow? The brand has nabbed sought-after celeb make-up artist Tom Pecheux as their creative director and he's given their Pure Colour range a luxe little makeover. Get a load of Estee Lauder PureColor eye shadow, R275.

The press pics just don't do this baby justice, so I snapped one myself.

This highly pigmented slightly pearlescent shade is called Amethyst Spark. I love that the case contains a mirror (even though I'd probably never use it) and adore the too-pretty-to-mess-up 'EL' embossed into the powder itself. Texture-wise, it's finely milled and feels incredibly smooth and velvety to the touch (Merely brush your eyelid to apply it, and the staying power is superb). The only issue you'll have is deciding on a colour...

We also got sent a few polishes from Essie's new Summer 2010 collection. The range consists of a few taupes, a bright splash of green as well as pink, coral and red. According to Essie Weingarten (yes, there really is an Essie – she's the creator of the brand), she based the collection on the floral prints she spotted on the runways at New York Fashion Week.

The shade I'm most into is called Vermillionaire, a zexy, juicy-looking coral sure to add a bit o' fire to any fingertips.

Are you loving it? I reckon this summer's going to be seriously colour-wonderful. This week, if you do one thing, beauty-wise, be brave and make it giving yourself an ultra-bright mani or pedi.

See you at the beauty counters!

Love, love

Leigh
