My name is Esme (a 40-something-year-old young female) and when I read this article I decided that today was the day I responded and wrote something back since I feel that jeans and I are NOT friends.
I always used to fit into jeans, you know when I was young(er) and had a better body and felt better about myself but I tell you, these days finding a pair of jeans that I actually feel comfortable in is as difficult as finding a straight or single guy in Cape Town (and YES, I live here and YES I am single - urgh).
Just this weekend, I was dragging my poor 13-year-old with me trying to find a pair of jeans that I, not only will feel comfortable in, but look good in them too (you know... you got to look good). So at a very well-known retail store, I went in and scanned for jeans and with a happy heart I saw that they have a special going on.
Problem with specials is that the clothes are either made for size 6 or 18 woman – never any specials for the in-between ladies. Okay, I’m a size 14 – that doesn’t really make me average, but you get the idea (it’s like shoes on special. There are somehow never any size 5 or 6s ‘left’ on special.
Anyway, here I am, scanning the racks to find a jean and TADAAAAA a jean in my size – nogal says “magic” fit (which apparently makes you look smaller and I’ll be dammed if I don’t at least try to see if that is a lie or not – which it was). Anyway, so here I am dragging my daughter to the fitting rooms and fit these miracle jeans which – I have to say – goes up easily but then when I get to the middle the only reason it is called magic is because it pushes everything up and now I have 4 boobs – two normal ones and 2 made by all the skin and fat pushed up to the top AND TOTALLY traumatising my child in the process!
Needless to say, I did not take the jeans...
I don’t have a new pair of jeans yet and at this rate I wonder if I’m ever going to get a pair (again) that I look and feel fantastic in?! They are always either too tight, too short, too crazily cut or just not for my body.
This makes me sad and I wish I could drink at work cause a glass of wine could go down nice now...
Maybe someone can one day design a jean that is made for every beautiful lady out there but I guess that’s going to cost a lot of money to have a personal jean maker? Maybe someone should start that job? Think they’ll make GOOD money.
PS: Gonna SO have that glass of wine when I get home. Cheers!
