Since fashion's Covid innovations in 2020, we've witnessed a miniature haute couture collection by Dior; Anifa M's industry-pivoting virtual 3D showcase; Pier Paolo Piccioli and Nick Knight's celestial Valentino couture digital showcase; Loewe had to cancel their show earlier this year, documenting their collection in newspaper format instead; and Balmain shot its fashion film at the Air France Industries hangars.
So what next?

With this 'Space Colony' collection, Louis Vuitton finds themselves in good company with fellow fashion houses embracing a zeitgeist of optimism and futurism for their latest collections. Earlier this year, Michael Kors' 40th anniversary show captured optimism and the "idea of steeping out again". The Fall/Winter collection arrives in stores in September, so these are the clothes that will be “right for you” when the world will hopefully be in a better place.
To mark a decade of his label at New York Fashion Week in September 2020, MAXHOSA's Laduma Ngxokolo married futurism with optimism for his "MAXHOSA galaxy". Laduma produced what he says is "the brightest collection I have made thus far," adding that the collection "aims to bring positivity and inject a positive sense of happiness into the world, going against the odds that have happened in 2020. We are trying to appeal to people and encourage them to be at their happiest."
We had to "imagine happiness, make [your home] your own galaxy, and [create] an imaginary world that is virtual," he says.
"I said to myself; 'yo, imagine a Maxhosa galaxy,'" he adds, and so he did... in living colour and vibrancy.

And so Louis Vuitton continues to take flight with these concepts, offering an epic fantasy of space tourism. Here, architecture and design meet to give us a collection of "proud, positive looks that advance straight ahead, serenely."
LV Cruise 2022 show description
Axe Majeur, near Paris, transforms a promenade into fantastical reveries. A sculpture conceived like a beautiful utopia, by a humanist artist whose compassionate, peaceful works are scattered around around the world. An architecture of reconciliation, where water, light, wind, sand, concrete, stone, and steel create a felicitous relationship between nature, space, and time.
With the 2022 Cruise collection, Louis Vuitton steps into this singular geometry, from the “Ile Astronomique” to “Le Douze Colonnes” and “Le Jardin des Droits de l’Homme,” culminating in “La Passerelle,” opening as many imaginary portals to traverse the atmosphere and — why not? — touch infinity.

An optimistic company akin to luminous “marching bands” of joyful color. A collection of proud, positive looks that advance straight ahead, serenely. They are the picture of harmony in an environment that is so close and yet so far away, borderless and open to adventure. One needs nothing more than the most beautiful of passports: creation.
As ever, it is unlimited and free.
Vogue highlights that the space-invading themes of the collections "weren’t simply metaphors for earthly holidays, or indeed cruises, but a literal step in the direction of what travel could look like in the near future."
