Give me summer! Give me sunshine!

Carmen:

Is it just us or does 2013 need to end already? Over here, at Women24 HQ, we’re just about ready to kick back, relax, and toast to the year that was. But we can’t. Because there’s still an entire month left!

Novemberitis has hit us big time. And we’d really all rather be outside or on the beach.

But what really gets to me is that this year has flown by so quickly. Another year has gone by and I've barely noticed.

Does anyone else feel like they haven’t accomplished nearly enough?  That’s why I want the year to end so I can start anew (just like I told myself I would do last year) and achieve at least three of the things on my bucket list.

Maybe I should plan that road trip for myself and a few friends.  Or learn to speak French. Or start writing my memoirs at the age of 23. But, seriously, how do I get rid of this feeling? Jana? Tammy? Any ideas?

Jana:

The only thing that’s getting me through these last few weeks before taking leave is the idea of spending my days on the beach or next to the pool. But that also means having to spend my days at said beach or pool in a bikini.

It’s a catch 22; I want to the days to fly by so that I can get out of here, but I need more time to get summer dress and swimsuit ready. Luckily there are ways for me (and you) not to worry about the festive season spread. Like these cool tips on how to choose the right swimsuit for your shape, and expert advice on how to avoid gaining weight during the holidays.

I’ve also suddently realised that affording this holiday is going to be tricky. Boozy lunches, Christmas presents and new summer outfits all cost money. So, I’ve started saving, but will it be enough to last me through the season?

Tammy:

I think the best way we can try to get through this is by focusing on what was achieved instead of what wasn’t. Be a little kinder to yourself. The one thing that this year has brought home to me is the fact that we like nothing better than to punish ourselves when we make mistakes.

So, you think the year wasn’t a success, you’ve gained some weight and you didn’t reach the targets you set for yourself. Trust me, I know this feeling (in fact, the points mentioned above IS me). Novemberitis has this nasty little habit of getting to me when my defences are at its lowest.

I’m fed up and really, really just want to give my brain, body and emotions a break from all the fast-paced, stress-induced frenzy that seems hell-bent on destroying my last reserve. What's keeping me going is focusing on the things that I really love doing; escaping from it all by indulging in as many new (and old) books I can find.

There’s nothing like being transported to another world to take your mind off the madness and mayhem that this time of the year brings.

So, what do you think of our ideas? Do you have any advice for us? Tell us how you’re staving off Novemberitis. Or, if you’re fighting a losing battle, tell us why you need this year to end already.
