Love Lies by Adele Parks (Penguin Books)
I had the pleasure and – forgive me when I say – honour, to meet Adele Parks for an interview when she was in Cape Town for the Cape Town Book Fair. As an aspiring writer and an inexperienced journalist I was understandably nervous to meet her – I mean, this woman has sold over a million books in the UK alone! Say what you will, writing 9 bestsellers in 9 years is no mean feat.

My fears were totally unfounded, thank heavens. As soon as I met the prettily petite woman I realised she was as warm, bubbly and, well, normal as her female characters. We chatted like old friends.

One of the many topics we discussed was her latest book, Love Lies, which was recently published in SA. (I think by the time you read this Love Lies would just be available in the UK and USA.)

Love Lies is about a normal girl, Fern, who believes her relationship with her long time boyfriend is going nowhere slowly. After giving her boyfriend an ultimatum which he doesn't meet, she unexpectedly meets her all time hero and rock god, Scott Taylor.

Soon Fern is swept up in the dizzy world of being wooed by a world famous rock star.

Love Lies is fun, clever and remarkably emotionally intelligent. Adele Parks takes one of the biggest female fantasies (show me a woman who hasn't fantasised about meeting her favourite rock/movie star and having him fall in love with her and I'll show you a liar) and makes it completely believable. She also has an uncanny ability to create a very un-Mills&Boonsy type of sexual attraction between her characters – I really don't want to say "sizzling" but I can't think of a better word – at least not one that I can print here...

It was a lovely read in all. So leave all snobby silliness about chick-lit at the door and read Love Lies. Also, this month, we are running a fabulous giveaway which includes 8 of her bestsellers. Enter now.
