Say Yes to Cucumber!

accreditation
Did any of you read my review regarding Yes to Cucumber hand cream? (That stuff's just fab, you know...) I got to attend the brand's launch the other day where I got to learn a little more about it.

As it turns out, Yes to Cucumber products, exclusive to Clicks, are especially geared towards those with sensitive skin. (Aside from containing the obvious organic cucumber, the products also include a healthy helping of soothing aloe vera as well as 26 Dead Sea minerals). In fact, Yes To Cucumber Daily Makeover shampoo and conditioner is specifically formulated for colour-treated hair. I also like that everything's so reasonably priced, ranging from R79 to R129. Now, us mere mortals can also toss cult celeb beauty products into our trolleys with wild abandon – without fear of breaking the bank. (Just so you know, the "Yes To" lines are big faves of tree-hugging celebs like Nicole Richie and Katherine Heigl...)

Otherwise, I also got to take a look at Estee Lauder's new Virtual Make-over Tool on www.esteelauder.com the other day. (You'll find it listed under "Looks & Tips"). Darling Jess, their brand manager, said there wasn't much point in creating one for the SA website, when really, (with the web being such a small world and all...) you can just hop on over to their US website with a simple click.

Using the make-over widget involves uploading a pic of your face – preferably unmade up, staring straight ahead (think zexy 'ID book' or 'mug shot'-style) – so as to play dress up using all their cosmetics. Just a few things you should know before you get started - it might not be a good idea to toy with it at work. It's totally addictive and you can easily get sucked in to spend a good hour going back and forth between their many, many foundations alone. (It's a cosmetics black hole, I tell you...) Lastly, know that not every colour you play with will be available for sale in SA. Just about, but not everything.

Now, if you're the kind of girl who doesn't just want to play with colour online, but craves a massive "real life" palette to experiment with and enjoy, get a load Yardley's new "Indulgence" Christmas Palette.

It contains a whopping 48 eye shadows (yes, you heard me) as well as three blushes, a powder and four applicator brushes! And get this – it's only R169,95! (I especially like that each eye shadow has a cutesy little daisy-shape pressed into it. So very Marc Jacobs...)

In other beauty news, ghd were kind enough to send us a bottle of their GHD Miracle Mist Daily Conditioning Spray, R190.

I felt it made sense to hand it over to Deirdre, our Publisher because, every time I chat to her, I hear either one of two things: "Please tell me you have Vera Wang EDT!" (I think it's like her crack...) and "Flippen' heck, my arm's going to break off – I can't brush my children's hair anymore!"

You see, Deirdre's kids have been blessed with their mother's enviably lush, thick hair. Except it's really, really curly. Great to have when you're all grown up and can keep it tangle-free and fab like their mom – but your parent's worst nagmerrie while you're still a kiddie.

So, I handed over the Miracle Mist in the hope that it would indeed live up to its name, (but admit I briefly wondered if I shouldn't have been doing my best to source her a hair clipper instead...) However, to my surprise, the juice is kicking ass!

"Mila has thick, curly medium length hair that's really difficult to comb," says Deirdre. "I have to do this twice a day with a spray detangler." But, since using the Miracle Mist, Deirdre says Mila is now "ecstatic" because "not only has it softened her hair with daily use, but her curl is starting to relax." Deirdre also liked that the product added moisture as well as shine without creating grease, adding that she liked that she could "use it daily between washes."

Anyway, last but not least, you should know that Almay has picked a new face to represent their brand locally – the gorgeous Matapa Maila.

A model, beauty queen (her most recent title is Miss Earth 2008) and working Logistics Advisor, this brainy beauty leads a "green and organic lifestyle." Soon, if not already, you'll begin to see her face in store as she's going to help promote their Even Skin range, something she firmly believes in. That and "drinking lots of water", going to gym and never climbing into bed with your make-up on. (Which is probably all too easy if you've got a life time supply of Almay Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover Pads...) What? You haven't tried them? Get thee to the store now! In my opinion, they're definitely the brands best product!

Anyhoo, that's it from me... for now.

Love, love

Leigh
