My grandmother, too, would have turned 100 this year in August. She passed on years before I was born. I wish we had met, or maybe she had at least left me a garment or two, you know, granny's closet can be a goldmine for style and nostalgia.
But we still have Iris Apfel, and when I discovered that the ever-stylish style icon's 100th birthday was eight days after my grandmother's birthday, my first thought was to imagine her as my grandmother, and I could shop in her closet. That thought has given me a longing I can't explain, but I know I can't possibly be the only one who thinks of this.
