According to organic gardener, Tanya Anderson, a host of plants can be used to aid beauty and wellbeing.

Here, we share three plant-based products you can make at home:

Lavender herbal oil

Fill a jar halfway with dried lavender and add a light carrier oil like grapeseed. Leave for 2 – 6 weeks in a warm spot out of direct sunlight, then simply strain through a sieve. The finished product can be used to make massage oils, salves, lotions and skin cleansers.

Rose petal facial mist

Make a glycerite from vegetable glycerin and distilled water, then add that to a rose tea infusion, made by putting rose petals in scalding hot water.

Turn off the heat, place a lid on the pan and allow to steep for 20 minutes. Shake it all together in a spray bottle. It’s best kept in the fridge.

Herb-infused bath bombs

Combine bicarbonate of soda and Epsom salts then meld them together with herb-infused oil. The oil will coat your skin when you climb out of the bath.

Other species you can incorporate into a range of products include aloe vera, chamomile and peppermint.
