English actor Judi Dench recently revealed that she can no longer read scripts or see on set due to her eye condition.
The 88-year-old actor told The Mirror's (UK) Notebook magazine that despite her degenerative eye condition, she wants to work as much as she can.
The actor continued:
Dench is struggling to learn her lines and relies on others to help her read her scripts. "It's terrible to be so dependent on people," she said.
In 2012, she was diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is an eye disease that can cause blurred vision. The condition is common among older adults.
Her AMD has worsened since the initial diagnosis, and in 2017, the actor stopped driving.
In an interview with RadioTimes when she was 84, she said:
Dench is known for her roles in the James Bond franchise as the character M. She has also had roles in Shakespeare in Love, Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Philomena. Dench is additionally known as a seasoned theatre actor, playing in several Shakespeare pieces.
She has also received numerous acting awards, including an Oscar with another seven nominations, 10 BAFTA awards, four Emmy nominations and two Golden Globes.
Last year, Dench was featured in the films Spirited and Allelujah.
