South Africa has proven to be an attractive destination for international film projects, but its popularity often goes understated. Numerous films and series have been shot on local sites, often doubling for other locations like Los Angeles or far-away fantasy worlds.

Some notable series filmed in SA include One Piece, Black Sails, Black Mirror, The Crown and many others. Some of the more obvious films that have been shot in SA are The Avengers: Age of Ultron (for the Duel of Johannesburg scene) and Invictus, which is about the country's 1995 Springbok team. The Woman King, which featured local actors like Thuso Mbedu, was also shot on home soil.
