Britney Spears fans are trolling Justin Timberlake after he started the roll-out for his new album.

Timberlake released his latest single, Selfish, on 25 January, teasing his upcoming record, Everything I Thought It Was, releasing on 15 March 2024.

In response to Timberlake's single, Spears fans started streaming one of her songs, also titled Selfish, from her album 2011 album Femme Fatale.

Spears' song overtook Timberlake's single a day after it was released, reaching number one on the iTunes Top Songs chart.

Timberlake announced his comeback months after the controversy stirred by Spears' memoir The Woman in Me.

In the book, Spears shared that she fell pregnant with Timberlake's baby while they were dating between 1999 and 2000. The singer claimed she had to get an abortion because Timberlake felt they weren't ready to be parents.

Spears also wrote that while they were dating, she knew Timberlake was cheating on her but turned a blind eye, according to Vanity Fair.

In the memoir, Spears also addressed rumours that she cheated on Timberlake. She admitted that she kissed her choreographer Wade Robson in reaction to rumours of Timberlake's unfaithfulness, according to E!.

Spears fans have long disliked Timberlake, especially after his 2002 single and music video Cry Me a River, in which he villainises her, according to Variety.

The memoir seemingly reignited Spears fans' resentment of Timberlake, prompting them to troll him.
