South African superstar Tyla had her first appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Monday night in the US.

The artist performed her song, ART, from her new self-titled album. The project has received praise from the music world and a positive reception from critics.

"She won Best African Music Performance at this year's Grammy awards. Performing ART from her self-titled album, Tyla," Colbert said, introducing her.

"That was beautiful, thank you," the television host told Tyla after the performance.

The singer was also photographed in New York on 8 April, apparently leaving the studio where Colbert's show is shot. She was spotted earlier in the week at an event in the city.

Tyla has previously performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Swedish show talk show Bianca, which was her TV debut.

Tyla touched down in SA on 31 March and had a warm welcome at the OR Tambo International Airport. Her homecoming was an opportunity to celebrate her Grammy win with local fans.

In early March, Tyla announced that she was postponing and cancelling her international tour dates due to an injury.

Her UK and Europe tour, which included locations such as Oslo, Stockholm, Berlin and London, was rescheduled. The singer's North America tour, which included her debut Coachella performance, was cancelled.

"For the past year, I've been silently suffering with an injury that has tragically worsened. I've seen doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain has only become more agonising, as has the severity of the situation," she said in a statement.

"In consulting with medical professionals, it's become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardise my long-term health and safety," she said at the time.

"Please know that my team and I are working diligently on a spectacular show for you as soon as I am recovered and ready to return safely onstage this summer," she reassured fans.
