Following the surprise announcement of his departure from long-running SABC 2 weeknight drama, Muvhango, last month, Gabriel Temudzani is back on the show "by popular demand".

Temudzani spooked the royal family as he returned to the drama to again play his character as Chief Azwindini Mukwevho last week.

"We are thrilled to confirm that Chief Azwindini has returned to Muvhango following his departure in May," the show's publicist Kgomotso Ndwandwe told News24. "We have received an overwhelming response from viewers who expressed their excitement over his return, and we appreciate the unwavering support."

In his departure episode, Azwindini was set alight by Tenda Mudau (played by Nat Ramabulana), who avenged himself against those who put him in jail. Before that, Mudau gunned the chief down as his ex-wife Suzan Mukwevho (played by Maumela Mahuwa), looked on.

"Indoda must have 9 lives…. Azwindini is back by popular demand," Temudzani wrote on social media as he shared the news of his return. "Thanks to the public outcry. The viewers have power."
