  • Muvhango is shaking things up in its 25th season by bringing in a mix of new and old faces.
  • Returning cast members are Buhle Samuels (Matshidiso) and Sydney Ramakuwela (Mulalo).
  • Other faces familiar to the small screen joining the show are Howza Mosese and Aubrey Mmakola.

Award-winning SABC2 drama Muvhango is shaking up its cast with new and returning faces for its 25th season, which kicked off on Thursday.

Viewers were treated to the return of the oft-problematic Matshidiso (Buhle Samuels).

Then, on Friday evening, they saw the return of the royal family's prodigal son Mulalo (Sydney Ramakuwela) who's back from Mauritius. Viewers can anticipate his scheming, self-victimisation and constant comparison with Azwindini (Gabriel Temudzani) due to Mulalo's feeling that he should also have a prominent role in the Mukwevho family.

"The return of these much-loved and controversial characters, Matshidiso and Mulalo, aims to challenge the status quo, heightening the drama in the new season. We know that whenever these two are in our world, there is chaos," said Muvhango PR and social media assistant Ndumi Zungu.

"They are forced to collaborate on getting themselves in positions of power at MMC, manipulating and betraying family and friends in the process.

"Unbeknown to them, a surprise that will thwart their plans is looming."

MORE ABOUT THE NEW CAST MEMBERS:

Manditi (Tshepo "Howza" Mosese)

Known for his long-time role as Detective Lerumo Chabedi on Scandal!, Mosese's character as Manditi is woven from mystery, intelligence, ruthlessness and charisma.

Mystery surrounds his past, while ruthlessness defines his actions as he stops at nothing to achieve his goals.

Tshililo (Aubrey Mmakola)

Though a perceived spoilt rich kid who grew up with a silver spoon, Tshililo is strong-willed, hard-headed and opinionated. Despite the tough exterior, a gentle but troubled soul emerges when one gets to know him better. With a passion for events management but no musical talent, he dreams of becoming a booking agent for musicians.

Reneilwe  "Rene" Netshitangane (Sinete Nemakonde)

Making her debut on 11 January, Rene is a resilient individual, shaped by the indomitable spirit of her alpha-female mother. An elegant and stunning woman who turns heads without effort as she walks, Rene carries herself with an innate poise that mirrors her refined upbringing.

Nkele Dikeledi Netshitangane, Rene's mother (Mudi Mudau)

The top Limpopo businesswoman has ambitions of dominating the male-dominated construction industry. She proves to be an overbearing mother who smothers her daughter with love and money.
