The South African public broadcaster plans to renew its Venda weekday prime time soap Muvhango although no new contract has yet been signed, and the show's cast and crew have been sitting at home for two months, not getting paid.

Production on the Duma Ndlovu-created soap produced by Word of Mouth Pictures shuttered in mid-August.

Word of Mouth Pictures submitted the necessary documents for renewal for another season in May to the SABC, but months later, while SABC2 continues to show episodes, the Muvhango cast and crew have not been working.

In response to a media query, Gugu Ntuli, SABC spokesperson, told Channel24 that "the SABC is finalising negotiations with Word of Mouth Pictures on another season of Muvhango. The SABC can confirm that Muvhango will continue to be broadcast on SABC2, Mondays to Fridays at 21:00".
