'We have momentum': Disney Africa hopes 'futuristic' Iwájú will inspire a new generation of creators

News24's Leandra Engelbrecht attended the junket and world premiere of Disney's Iwájú in Nigeria, where she spoke to Christine Service, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Africa, about the company's commitment to telling stories from the continent.

"At Disney, storytelling is the cornerstone of what we do, but we are also really focused on making sure that we can showcase audiences in the world they live in and their realities more with stories [from] across the globe. And this does exactly that," said Christine Service, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Africa, about the new series Iwájú.

Last week, the animation giant had the world premiere of its latest African production in Lagos, Nigeria. Billed as a first-of-its-kind collaboration,' the eight-episode animation series from the entertainment company Kugali is the first production company from the continent to collaborate with the Walt Disney Animation Studios.
