The time is nearly here when Hollywood's brightest stars gather for film's most prestigious awards ceremony – the 95th Academy Awards.

The Oscars celebrate creative and technical excellence in the film industry. Given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the awards are considered among the highest honours in film and entertainment.

Late-night American TV personality Jimmy Kimmel returns to host this year's ceremony for the third time.

There are 23 categories, including film editing, directing, cinematography, acting, music, costume design, makeup, and hairstyling. However, the most anticipated award is the title of best picture.

The ten films vying for the golden statuette include frontrunner Everything Everywhere All at Once, as well as All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar: The Way of Water, The Banshees of Inisherin, Elvis, The Fabelmans, Tár, Top Gun: Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, and Women Talking.

Taking place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night, the Oscars will be broadcast live on Monday, 13 March, on M-Net Movies 1 (DStv 104) at 03:00.

For those who opt to sleep in, the ceremony will air during primetime at 20:30.
